Today on Dec. 17 is the urs of Hazrat Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi (30 September 1207 – 17 December 1273). It is the anniversary of his passing away, or rather his wedding day with the Beloved. Rumi was not just one of the giants of Persian Sufi poetry, he was also the Pole of Love, a Sufi Master who lived and taught in Konya, Turkey, where he is also buried. Originally from Balkh, Afghanistan, Rumi's family fled the Mongol invasion and migrated to Konya. Already back then it was a center of learning and spirituality.
