yes, friends, the "islamic society of north america" (isna) is homophobic...

dear friends,

today, i have unfriended 37 facebook friends, including two immediate family members. why? because they “like” an organization that i don’t want on my feed. that organization is the islamic society of north america, better known as “isna”.

muzzamil sidiqqi, who has been a leader at the organization for a long time and is currently on its board members, had once said that “Homosexuality is a moral disorder. It is a moral disease, a sin and corruption... No person is born homosexual, just like no one is born a thief, a liar or murderer. People acquire these evil habits due to a lack of proper guidance and education.” see: http://bit.ly/mr92a

recently, he made a comment on a huffington post article that the progressive muslim mosque that welcomes lgbt muslims is “unacceptable”, and called daayiee abdullah illegitimate imam because he officiates same-sex marriages. see: http://huff.to/19mDTLe

it’s not just the guy. it’s also the organization. last year, for example, they had a workshop called “vices of society”, which was presented by tahir anwar and alla’uddin bakri, and moderated by afia ali quadri. it dealt with many ‘vices’/’haram’ in the society such as “dating, sex, pornography, homosexuality”. you can download the original program here: http://bit.ly/10PdnGK

i think i have given you enough reasons to understand why i did what i did. if you “like” isna, maybe you do… and that is your right. but i don’t. and i don’t want that crap on my feed. so, if you want to be friends, “unlike” them and request again :)

best wishes.
